MADISON, Wisconsin — Madison police say a 19-year-old man died Friday night after being shot by an officer.

Police Chief Mike Koval said the man, who was black, was shot after an altercation with the officer and died at a hospital. Koval did not know if the man was armed, and authorities have not released the man's name. However, family and friends identified the man as Tony Robinson, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Koval said police were called because the man was jumping into traffic, according to the newspaper. He said the officer went to an apartment where the man had gone, then went inside after hearing a disturbance. Koval said the officer fired more than one shot after the 19-year-old assaulted the officer. Read more...
