Britain asks Russia why its bombers were flying over the English Channel

LONDON — British commercial air traffic was disrupted Wednesday after two Russian warplanes were spotted flying close to UK airspace over the English channel.



The two planes didn't enter the airspace and were escorted by two Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters, scrambled after the Russian Tu-95 ‘Bears' were spotted


The planes, which did not have their transponders switched on, travelled from the north, flew past the west coast of Ireland to the English Channel before turning back


The UK has summoned the Russian ambassador to account for the incident. Read more...
